Despite the clean sheet kept for Liverpool after the latest game against Brighton, Liverpool goalie Alisson Becker been widely accused by pundits and some fans for unnecessary risk which he allowed in the second half. Indeed, on 68th minute Reds’ defender Virgil Van Dijk was forced to pass back to Alisson who immediately faced the pressure by Brighton forward Anthony Knockeart trying to close down on the edge of the box. Brazilian by birth, Liverpool keeper decided to act like this:
Woah! Despite the fact that rare sombrero trick was performed flawlessly, some of Reds’ supporters suffered something close to mini heart attack so after the game Liverpool boss was forced to defend his keeper's decision:
That wasn’t too cool for a manager. If it works then it’s cool!
I had a few centre-halves who were able to do things a centre-half should not do, like Mats Hummels – constantly doing things which made no sense but he was really good in there.
Alisson is obviously a goalkeeper who can play football, which is good. He’s confident enough to do it. He didn’t do it for showing off, he did it to sort the situation.
He has a nice level of confidence, so he uses that. I like the save from the header more than the chip, but the chip was the right thing to do in that situation.
Well, it also glad to notice that most of Liverpool supporters and fans of good football in general really appreciated Alisson’s trick which was a true joy to behold.
