The controversy surrounding the final match between Esperence and Wydad was scheduled to be replayed after VAR developed a technical problem when reviewing an offside goal.
After 1-1 draw between the two teams in the first leg, Esperence were leading Wydad 1-0 when the players and officials of Wydad felt they've been cheated with an offside goal and protested that referee Bakary Papa Gassama should review the goal with VAR but a little technical error hampered the offside review.
Wydad players got angry and walked off the pitch after which Esperance were declared the winners. The first leg of the game ended in a 1-1 draw and so Esperance were declared champions.
Wydad players, out of anger walked out of the pitch and Esperance were declared the winners. This spring a lot of controversies and CAF Executive Committee decided that the match should be replayed on a neutral ground, which is South Africa.
This decision by CAF execute is what I find very amusing. It's just like saying Liverpool VS Tottenham UCL final should be rematched. After the trophy and medals have been handed over to the winner?🤣
Esperance will probably not honour this sham if it holds, because they would be a laughing stock if they rematch and lose and all medals returned. The status quo should remain and Wydad should be punished for their willful disobedience of waking out of the pitch before the final whistle
What do you guys think?
