Both teams were humiliated and eliminated in their own backyards by the gameplay and by some top class finishing skills of their opponents.
Madrid, the undisputed three Champions League holders since 2015 were bundled out of the tournament by an unexpected performance by Ajax. Madrid's performance was awful as there was no attacking threats from them. Their best chances came from Varane’s header which only hit the bar.
Their 2–1 away win against Ajax in the first leg was a great advantage for them to scale through to the quarter final but looking at previous game, Ajax came with full force. They dominated the game and they came out victorious unlike the first leg when they dominated Madrid but still lost to them
What else does anyone call an embarrassment considering Ajax, the only club who are still going on coming from qualification rounds?
Now coming to PSG, they had their 2-0 away win in Old Trafford which seemed like an automatic qualification for them until they goofed in the last minute of the second leg.
Looking at that game, they weren't outplayed by Manchester United. They played well but their last minute blunder and some unlucky referee decisions led to their elimination.
They had fit players with only the absence of Neymar and Cavani due to injuries. Although Cavani recovered and was fit for the match but the coach decided he should rest.
Manchester United had 9 injured players with Pogba being suspended. Most of those player that graced the field were not that experienced. They didn't have the capacity to match up with the quality of PSG players. The truth is, PSG played well but were not lethal enough to kill the game
Looking at Madrid and PSG, both teams have some kind of similarities. They both disrespected their opponents and came to the games like they knew they have already qualified.
As for who should feel more embarrassed, it has to be PSG because they were dominant in both fitness and the depth of their squad. They faced almost no pressure throughout the game and yet still manage to lose 3 goals.
The same way they goofed and lost to Barcelona last season.
So which elimination do you consider more humiliating?
