Some bizarre things still happen in African football which can be traced down to manner of indiscipline and inability to accept defeat. This has been the bane of local leagues and despite heavy fines and ban being slammed on erring teams who physically assault their opponents or officials, another one was recorded again. I was watching a match few days ago between Shooting Stars and Akwa Skarlet when an ugly incident was recorded. I couldn't believe my eyes when a football match became a boxing match.
Akwa Skarlet player, Franklin Akwari allegedly beat up Shooting Stars' coach, Agoye Edith Olumide after a goalless draw match to Shooting Stars. The away team felt they deserved to win the match and out of anger, Franklin descended on Shooting Stars' coach as well as the referees after the final whistle. The coach was reportedly left unconscious for some minutes before he was revived by the medics.
What kind of a player does that? If it were to be an international football, such a player should wave goodbye to his football career but here, such a player would return to football after few weeks ban. This is such a big disgrace and that's why local leagues in some parts of this continent are perpetually doomed to backwardness.
I drop my pen at this juncture 😎
