English winger Jesse Lingard was on the end of some unfair criticism at the eve of half-time in Manchester United's game against Liverpool. This is even quite surprising bearing in mind that the winger was an unused substitute throughout the game. Yet while warming up on the edge of the throwing line, abuses were rained on him by angry Manchester United fans at the Old Trafford.
Highlights on the Jesse Lingard incident
The Red Devils were eventually defeated by 5 goals to nothing by a Jurgen Klopp-led Liverpool side. However, the incident between Jesse and the fans happened while the team were down 4 goals to nothing. When it became obvious that there was no way back for the Manchester United side, some of the angry fans in the stadium began to verbally abuse the players. Jesse Lingard was on the receiving end of one such abuse.
Lingard's perfect response
While warming up, some fans aimed at Lingard and rained abuses on him as the Red Devils were 4 goals down to Liverpool. At first, it seemed like these abuses would stop sooner. However, when these fans showed no signs of slowing down, Lingard had to remind these fellows that he was not even on the pitch. In other words, Lingard meant that these abuses should not be coming to innocent players who did not participate during the game.
