Christian Pulisic displayed an incredible game-turning Courtois around to put Chelsea in front in the 14th minutes of the game. Madrid was later able to equalize the deficit through Benzema's classic display in front of Chelsea's two defenders.

Although the Blues played a nice game against aging and tired Real Madrid legs, they were not disciplined enough to maintain their lead or punish the opponent for their shortcomings.

It is obvious that the game of football requires more than just creating chances, but also converting those chances to get the needed and satisfactory results. Chelsea was unfortunately not able to deliver in this aspect.

Though they created many chances but weak to convert the ball into the back of the net leaving the host with something to fall back on and a motivation to fight well in the return leg.

If Chelsea must beat Real Madrid and head to the finals of the champions league, they must be ready to checkmate the following areas.

1. Converting chances: A remarkable display of game but with poor finishing is a poor outcome. Scores make the game, not how well you play. Chelsea has poor finishing and that cost them from winning the match against Madrid. Thomas Tuchel must do well to look into the area and probably get a better striker that will, above any odds, net the ball. Timo Werner was so poor with the chances he had and his lack of composure cost the team a win. Chelsea must be critical about converting chances.

2. Pay attention to the opponent's attacker. There is no doubt that Benzema was Chelsea's problem from the opponent's side. The defenders didn't do their homework well thereby allowing him to break through them. The first time he attempted was right in between two defenders and he almost net the ball. the second time he was given the privilege of sustaining his balance just enough to score. The defenders should have done better by ensuring he shouldn't gain balance. Not even little enough to play the ball.

3. Discipline: The game was looking favorable for the Blues and they felt a little complacent. The complacency got the opponent an equalizer. It's time the Blues realized until the final whistle blew, the game remains a serious business. They could have prevented an equalizer but the slackness and lack of discipline on the pitch cost them the win. Chelsea must be extra careful in the return leg not to allow unnecessary weakness. because Madrid can capitalize at any time.

4. Experience: Chelsea must realize they are up against tired legs but highly experienced in playing champions league games. They need to up their game. The blues show true vibrant play but are not fully experienced to secure a win against such a formidable opponent. They need to study the opponent better and capitalize on their weakness displays. Giving no room to chances. Once an opportunity is provided they must do well to convert it.

It is okay to play a brilliant game but what is important is getting the needed results. At the end of the day, it's not going to be how well you played but whether you win. The winner takes all the glory.
