Barca failed to take the opportunity to extend their lead on the top of the La Liga table (even if only for a short period of time) on Friday night when they took on Sevilla away from home. The Blaugranas began with an unusual attack which saw Antoinne Griezmann benched for Martin Braithwaithe while Suarez led up front with Messi. And although Barca controlled all the possession early in the game as they usually do, they failed to make talking point out of it until around the 20th minute.

In the 20th minute, Lionel Messi failed to make the best out of the two free kick opportunities presented to him as one was cleared of the line while another was saved by Sevilla goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik. Also, Luiz Suarez lost a valuable opportunity late in the game and all in all, Barca failed to register a win.

This result means that the tides have now turned and it seems to have thrown the top spot wide open if and only if Madrid do not fumble as well. Real are Just three points behind Barça now as opposed to the usual five when Barça had been winning of late. On Sunday, Madrid would take on Real Sociedad and a victory there would put them level on points with their eternal rivals, Fc Barcelona.
