Karim Benzema has not played for the French national team since June 2015 due to a case that the Frenchman is now. The case is about an alleged extortion which Benzema may have been involved in. French prosecutors say according to the media AFP.
Back in 2015 in the French national team camp, it was reported that Benzema have acted as an intermediary for a friend who was in possession of a video with sexual content by national teammate Mathieu Valbuena, and demanded money for not publishing the video. The now 33-year-old striker was suspended from the French national team and has not played for the French world champions since.
In the past, Benzema has admitted to approaching Valbuena regarding the sex video that his friend had come into possession of, but denies having participated in the extortion. He also believes that the French police used illegal methods to drag him into the case.
