Since November last year Derby County from the Championship stood without an official manager for the club, but that time is now over. The club writes today on its website that Wayne Rooney has been officially appointed as the club's new manager. Wayne Rooney took over as interim manager after firing former manager Phillip Cocu, but that deal has now been swapped for a permanent one of a kind. It also means the 35-year-old Englishman has now put his boots on the shelf to focus fully on his new role.

The former English national team player can look back on a great career, which has offered 763 official matches in his various clubs as well as as many as 206 goals at club level. In addition to that, he is also listed for 120 matches and 53 goals for the English national team.

Wayne Rooney's first match as official manager of the club will be the home game at Pride Park against Rotherham. Derby is currently number 22, while Rotherham is number 23 in the Championship.
