Real Madrid announce Kovacic's transfer to Chelsea. The Croatian midfielder was loaned to Chelsea for a season, possibly without any purchase options at all.
Real Madrid's official statement reads: Real Madrid and Chelsea have agreed to transfer Mateo Kovacic for next season, until 30 June 2019.
Thibaut Courtois
It turned out that Mateo Kovacic's loan to Chelsea was only a condition of the Thibaut Courtois transfer. Real Madrid has reportedly been looking for a new goalkeeper for several years, their ideal figure is Manchester United's David De Gea.
But Courtois turned out to be more determined to move to Spain on family grounds. Chelsea finally gave permission to move to Courtois, with a number not yet announced.
Chelsea's official statement read: Chelsea and Real Madrid have agreed to a Thibaut Courtois transfer, and the transfer depends on the personal agreement and the player's escape from medical tests. If the deal is confirmed, Mateo Kovacic will join Chelsea on loan as a season.
