This is a question many football club supporters need answer to. An ardent Manchester united, Bayern munich, Real Madrid, or Newcastle united supporter will be eager to see their new manager leave. Aside Newcastle united the other teams are top teams that ought to be performing at the very top level day in day out. Anything short of that is considered a failure.

Performing at a low level for a period of time will bring the club manager to the spotlight for the wrong reasons.

Let’s take a look at some of the clubs whose manager can be sacked any moment from now.

Real Madrid: Julen Lopetegui

The erstwhile coach of the Spanish national team is not having it easy at Real Madrid. Sacked by Spain shortly after being announced as the new Real Madrid manager is an indicator of a turbulent career at Madrid. Replacing club favourite Zinedine Zidane who just won 3 champions league trophy on a row is not an easy task even for the most experienced of all coaches. Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club means Lopetegui will make do without the Portugal superstar. It means Real Madrid must find an attacker that can offer 40+ goals a season.

Defeat against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA super cup didn’t surprise most supporters. They believe that the team need some time to adjust to the new coach tactics.

Their next 4 matches across all competitions saw Madrid playing a fluid possession game akin to the famed Guardiola tiki-taka. 13 goals in 4 matches saw many fans happy believing the team is ready to challenge Barcelona for the domestic title and claim a fourth UC trophy in a row. In a twist of fate, Real Madrid next 6 matches saw them scoring just 2 goals. Amassing 5 points out of a possible 18 is not something a team of Real Madrid caliber should be proud of. The question is how can a team averaging 3+ goals per match suddenly start struggling for goals.

Real Madrid in the bid to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and ease the goal burden on Karimi Benzema brought in Mariano Diaz and Vinicius Junior. It is believed that the three should be able to score 40 goals in between them. However, as things stands now, it will take something spectacular or a breakout season for the trio to amass 40 goals. Julen Lopetegui is not helping matters too. Inconsistent formation and tactics and experimenting with starting line-ups means different results in each fixture.

From what have been seen in Real Madrid matches so far, it is clear that Lopetegui prefers a patient possession style leading to him preferring central midfielders to wingers. The last match against Alavez saw Real Madrid playing a sort of 4-4-2 formation with Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and Dani Ceballos forming the core of the team. The only attack minded players in the line-up were Gareth Bale and Karimi Benzema. This afford the Alavez defenders to sit deep and nullify the little threats posed by the impotent Madrid attack. Real Madrid had the possession just as they have had in their last 6 matches but they eventually lost the game.

Wingers are very crucial in a game of football. They help to stretch the opposition defense line which in turn creates space for the center forward to operate. A wrong substitution saw him bringing off Benzema for Mariano. Aside few touches, Mariano was silent. He was not allowed to see much of the ball. A better substitution would be bringing on Asensio and Lucas Vazquez. Asensio for Ceballos means you are reverting to a 4-3-3 formation and Lucas Vazquez coming in for Nacho. The absence of the attack minded Marcelo creates lack of attacking presence down the left wing. Lucas Vazquez would have supported Asensio in creating an attacking presence and sending crosses into the box in a bid to unlock the defense. This would have led to a goal.

A shocking loss against Alavez means Lopetegui future hangs in the balance. He need a good result against Levante and rivals Barcelona in what may be the the deciding match in his Real Madid career.

For now, it is a question of when Lopetegui will get sacked?

The other parts are coming soon. Stay tuned.
