In my opinion, Real Madrid have got Zidane to thank for their good defensive record lately. The Frenchman looked to solidify the team in that department after he acknowledged that they are missing their major firepower in attack who helps to outscore other teams in every match. I am referring to Cristiano Ronaldo. The team became more defensive minded during Zidane's tenures and they continued in that vein even after the Frenchman's reign. This season, Real Madrid although bearing an entirely new defense have managed to retain their defensive solidity and with this, they are topping their league and already secured Champions League knockout stages spot. Very impressive. As a Real Madrid fan, it feels really good watching my team rank first in defense after having to endure their terrible defensive woes season after season years back.
