Happy Moanday Solskjaer And United Fans, Taste The Bitterness Of Defeat.
Losing 0-2 to an elite team like PSG is not a big deal, after all, losing is part and parcel of the game, but for a rookie manager so to say, like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, to go 11 matches unbeaten is a big deal. Solskjaers remarkable start at United has suddenly made United fans become arrogant, they now challenge any team that don a jersey and lace a boot, they have almost forgotten what defeat feels and tastes like. Happy Moanday Contest is @pete initiative, it is for every blogger, if you are lost and you don't know what to write about, you are new and needs support, it is a place for you. Common Solskjaer, why the comical face, it's just one defeat man Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started his caretaker role at Manchester United like a house on fire, winning 10 out of 11 matches and drew just 1, as he remained unbeaten in his 1st 11 matches in all competitions (prior to the PSG fixture), no United manager had had it rosy, not even 2 of United's greatest managers, Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Alex Matt Busby. Sir Alex Matt Busby's 6-match-unbeaten start was scuppered in a 2-3 lost to Stoke City, having won 5 and drawn 1 of his precious fixtures. Sir Alex Ferguson, on the other hand, lost 0-2 to Oxford United in his 1st game in charge of United and could only manage 1 win(a 1 nil win over Queens Park Rangers), in his 1st 6 starts. So, it is safe to say Solskjaer has already secured himself a place in United history book both as a player and now as a manager. Solskjaer's near-perfect starts is coming at a bizarre price, for a team that was having a turbulent season under Jose Mourinho, an unbeaten run is just too good to be true, fans are now demanding more, they feel they can defeat any team, and why should anybody blame them, United was once a UEFA ChampionsLeague Winner on 3 different occasions, and use to compete, shoulders to shoulders with Europe's finest, but thing fell apart along the line, however, a winning run under Solskjaer, that includes an emphatic wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, Fans can be forgiven for thinking that United is back to their best. The match against PSG was the 1st leg of UEFA Champions League round of 16, confidence was sky high among United faithful, a 2-goal-cushion victory was predicted by many confident United fans against a PSG team who is without 2 of her best players, Neymar Jnr and Edinson Cavani. The match was indeed fierce, to say the least, 24 committed fouls in total, with 8 cautions and a sending off, it was a battle Solskjaer never wanted to lose, but in his admittance, United was not on PSGs par. United started well as the home team though, but faded into the match, as PSG showed bigger character, and gained control of the match, it was only a matter of time before they made United pay. With former United ace, Angel Di Maria pulling the strings for PSG, quick-fired-double goals through Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe settled the contest in PSG's favour. The general notion that PSG is just an average team that is benefiting from a non-competitive league was once again duly answered by PSG, only a handful European elite clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and probably either or both of Liverpool or/and Manchester City can match PSG player for player, and strength for strength, for now, Manchester United is not 1 of those European elite clubs yet. Now, with all the good records Solskjaer started with at Old Trafford, he will have to add the ugly ones to it; ▪Manchester United heaviest ever home defeat in any European fixture, ▪the defeat was the 1st to any French team at Old Trafford  in any European fixture, ▪Solskjaer and Louis Van Gaal are the only United Manager to have lost their 1st UEFA Champions League match in charge. So, there you have it Solskjaer and all Manchester United fans, defeat always taste bitter, and bitterness is sometimes needed to appreciate sweetness, He who has never tasted what is bitter does not know what is sweet. ps; images are all Getty images' Thank you all for your selfless support of the Happy Moanday Contest.
