Why did Lampard sign Havertz? An Angry Fan Laments
After yet another terrible performance from the new signing, I am beginning to doubt his ability. The entire team played below par but I have to single him out because he is the most expensive player. I am beginning to wonder how Frank Lampard managed to convince the board to spend such huge amount for that player. Is there anything spectacular about him that I am not seeing. Lampard did not have a particular pattern in mind while signing players. He signed based on statistics. The Chelsea legend scanned through the list of players who have double figure for goals and assist and selected the youngest Furthermore, he felt if the player could get involved in many goals there, he could replicate them here. Unfortunately, his assumption did not work. The players are human and not machine. Young players performance has a lot to do with the team structure and not the players exceptional ability. I remember when Kirk Bojan was scouted as the next big talent in. Roma signed him. Guess what, he flopped. Stoke city tried to salvage his career. The team was relegated. Bojan success at Barça was because he played alongside Iniesta, Xavi and Lionel Messi. Xavi and Iniesta would never top the goal and assist chart, but they make goal scoring easier for the attackers. I think Frank Lampard did not really know the kind of player he wanted. First Chelsea went for Jordan Sancho and later signed Haverz after the board rejected the former. Both players have different style of play. While Jordan plays like a typical winger who makes runs and dribbles. Havertz slows down tempo and plays a more supporting role. I was shocked that Frank Lampard imagined deploying Harvetz as a winger. Wingers are deployed with the extra duty of tracking back to help the full back. Players with the German similar style of play like Mesut Ozil and David Silva lack the consistent energy to do so. They are deadliest at the center. Chelsea already had a handful of attacking midfielders like Lofty cheek, Barkley, Kovacic, What exceptional qualities does the German have? Hervatz success at Bayern was not hervatz making. The team would have performed well in Havertz absence. As a matter of fact, the German club is currently second position behind Bayern Munich. The German clubbdid not miss Havertz. Hevartz missed the team.
