Image Source Exciting Chelsea news coming out from latest reports that Chelsea are currently leading the race to sign Koulibaly away from Napoli. It is no longer news that Chelsea haven’t been anything close to great this season when it comes to defence as they have conceded the most goals out of the other top teams. It is already clear that Lampard needs at least one top-quality defender in his team as the current ones have shown that they aren’t top top level. With that, a few names have been linked to Chelsea in the center back positions, including Gabriel from Lyon and now Kouilibaly even though he has been a long time Chelsea target and has always been linked to Chelsea each season. While everyone knows that Lampard is in desperate need of a top-quality defender to bolster his team for next season, the question has always been which defender will suit Chelsea best and how Lampard wants his team to play. We all know that Lampard likes to play expansive attacking and high energy football, and his defenders, play a huge role in how the team plays and build up from the back. With reports suggesting that Chelsea are leading the race to sign the Napoli center back, it is music to the ears of the Chelsea fans as well all know how good the player is and how well he fits into an attacking set up like he did under Sarri. For me, I think Chelsea should do everything they can to sign the player, even though the player isn’t the youngest any more, he can still offer a good number of years at Chelsea and with his defensive qualities and experience, there is no doubt that he will walk straight into the team and will obviously strengthen the team. He is the kind of defender Chelsea needs right now, Rudiger and Zouma can offer a bit of what he can offer, but they haven’t really shown world-class performances so far this season, hence why the manager is seeking for reinforcement. Koulibaly for me has all it takes to be an instant hit at Chelsea… he is quick, very strong, can play out from the back, good in the air, no-nonsense defender etc… Him alongside Zouma or Rudiger could be a really strong force. Nonetheless, these are just mere assumptions and no one knows whether these reports are true or not. All I can say is that, Chelsea should try and get a top-class defender like him, even if it is not Koulibaly, but a player who can massively improve Chelsea’s defence – as we have seen that most of Chelsea’s problems this season have come from poor defence.
