Tottenham lost match in Newcastle
Tottenham Hotspur lost match against Newcastle United with result 2:1, but showed good performance. North London side dominated in this game especially in second half, created far more chances than hosts, but at the of the day got caught on counter attack late in the game and ended up without points. Crucial moment in the game was clearance of Johnson's cross done by Bruno Gimaraes on 1:1 which happen few minutes before quick counter attack executed by Joelington, Murphy and Isak for 2:1. Spurs dominated possession of the ball during entire match, but didn't create many chances in first half. One Odobert penetration on right side with attempt far over goal from not the best angle and few long range shots were all dangerous situations in front of Pope's goal. There was one nice moment when Son moved ball through Kelly's legs on the wing, but Magipes fouled him after. Romero scored one goal which was rightfully disallowed for offside. On the other side Isak hit crossbar from cunning shot from wing and Barnes finished one fast attack of Toons from inside the box for 1:0. It's amazing how Spurs players didn't track Barnes in that attack. They totally forgot about him and then look at each other after goal has been scored. Johnson came in in second half instead of Sarr and showed to everyone there are two Johnsons. First one is one who starts the game who can't do much and second one is beast who comes in from the bench in second half against tired legs. Man was the best Tottenham player on the pitch! North London side made dozens of chances and promising attacks and it's impossible to count them all. Johnson started to send low crosses inside the box, but his team mates were not able to put it inside the net or failed to be on right positions! Odobert had big chance on back post, but he hit the ball with knee and it ended above crossbar. Son was few milliseconds late in one situation, on wrong position in another, few balls flied through 5 meters but Spurs players didn't track action. Attack after attack happen and in one Maddison made good shoot, Pope deflected ball wide, Johnson was on right place in right moment and did the right thing which was sliding tackle which sent ball toward goal, Pope touched the ball it continued toward goal and Burn tried to clear but hit his own net! Spurs continued to attack, but it looked like some players avoid to pass ball to alone Johnson on the right. I saw Son not doing that two times. He moved in the middle and tried to shoot to be blocked while Johnson was all alone on flank ready to run in empty space and to send cross on back post for big chance, but ball didn't come his way! Kuluševski did same thing in the end when he passed ball in the middle to player who was in offside despite he was turned toward right and could see Johnson alone. If he passed there Johnson will without the doubt send it inside and that player who was in offside moment ago would be in dead chance and would score regular goal for 2:2! Crucial moment was situation in which Johnson took ball away from Newcastle player on center, moved around Gordon like fast train, stormed toward the box, sent good low cross toward Son on back post, ball passed through legs of first defender, but Bruno Gimaraes somehow cleared it in front of Son! Great piece of football that was. Johnson had also one big chance when he received ball inside the box after Porro's attempt was deflected his way, Brennan made one lovely move and sent ball to other foot tricking Newcastle defender, but his attempt went far over crossbar! In that moment I knew that many missed chances will hunt us, that punishment is coming and it came after Maddison who was again on the pitch after 70th minute got tricked by Joelington on center. Brazilian had plenty of space and he did superb through ball pass in space for Murphy who ran away from Udogie, Isak followed an action and was to fast for Dragušin and got ball after low cross and did tap in goal from close range! Ange made late substitutes after that and put Bergvall and Bentancur in, but they couldn't do much on the pitch. Football is simple game for simple people, there is really no need for complicating it by wanking on the ball. When your team mate is alone on flank with plenty of space in front you pass to him, you don't turn toward middle to get blocked or to try to pass toward covered player! I struggle to understand why Son and Kulusevski didn't do right things with ball when Johnson was all alone! Important thing is Van de Ven didn't play because he is injured because his coach Ange Postecoglou didn't substitute him in already won Everton game after he got injured! This was not serious from Ange! Big positive form this game is fact that Radu Dragusin showed he can play good in back line. Romanian made one superb tackle to deny Isak in the beginning of second half. At the end I must mention referee Rob Jones who did in my opinion great job! He showed cards exactly when I would do it and thanks to him we watched clean football game and could enjoy in it. He's one of the best referees in England! Fun fact is his linesman got injured during the game and fourth official came in to replace him. Let's hope things will be better once Solanke and Van de Ven return from injury. Two week pause is in front of us and after that we have Arsenal at home!
