RECAP OF SOME HUGE AND SHOCKING GAMES THAT WENT DOWN IN THE LAST 7 DAYS: NPFL, EPL, LALIGA, LIGUE 1, and COPPA ITALIA.
Welcome to these week's edition on "Recap of Some Huge and Shocking Games", and as usual, we will be taking a look at games that went down in the last 7 days. However, unlike last week's edition in which we only had games in the EPL and Italian Coppa Italia, this week's edition includes games in LaLiga Satander, Ligue 1, and Nigerian Professional Football League. Each game will be arranged in order of how they were played, oldest to the most recent game. Shall we begin? 1) SPANISH LALIGA SATANDER: Real Madrid 1:2 Levante Zinedine Zidane's men saw not only the point cap between themself and city rival, Athletico Madrid increase to 10 points, but also witnessed rival team, Barcelona overtake them on the League table thanks to a superior goal difference after they, Real Madrid fell to Levante in a game that could be tagged "frustrating". Although Los Blancos took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to a Marcos Asensio's goal, it looked pretty obvious that they would never be able to keep Levante at bay with a man less after Eder Militao was shown a straight red card and sent off the feild of play 4 minutes before Marcos Asensio's goal. Levante definitely took advantege of the situation of things, getting an equalizer through Jose Luis Morales in the 32 after he finished off Jorge Miramon's excellent cross, and they completed the comeback in the 78th minute after Roger did great justice to Enis Bardhi's sensational oass although the latter would have scored earlier if he had converted a 64th minute penalty that was saved by Real's Thibaut Courtois. More pressure on Zizou you want to say. 2) FRENCH LIGUE 1: Lorient 3:2 Paris Saint-Germain. Les Parisien not only slipped from 1st to 3rd position on the Ligue 1 tabje, they also suffered their first loss under new manager Mauricio Pochentino after they suffered a shocking defeat to 18th place Lorient. Laurent Abergel got Les Merlus in front in the 36th minute after he made Thomas Monconduit pay for his poor clearance, but 2 well executed penalties by Neymar Junior in either halves of the game saw Paris Saint-Germain turn the game around. However, what no one knew, and against the run of play, was that good fate was on Lorient's side as they got on level in the 80th minute after Yoane Wissa reacted to his first unsuccessful attempt to slot in the ball into the back of the net, and they, Lorient completed the comeback Terem Moffi slotted home a Laurent Abergel's long pass 12 minutes later, ensuring Les Merlus took all 3 points from this game. PSG bounced back to winning ways during the week after they got an emphatic 3 nil victory over Nlmes, but this victory was not sufficient to see them get back to the top of the table as both League leaders, Lille, and 2nd placed, Lyon secured victories in their respective games as well. 3) ITALIAN COPPA ITALIA SEMIFINAL 1ST LEG: Inter 1:2 Juventus. Having defeated city rival, AC Milan in a controversial Quaterfinal game to secure this Semifinal cruncher game against Juventus, it was a bit surprising to see the Nerazurris fall to the old ladies at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, a place they had gotten a 2 nil victory over the latter some few weeks ago. Lautaro Martinez, who put an end to his goal drought, was the one who gave Inter an early lead in the 9th minute after he slotted home a fine assist from Nicolo Barella, but 2 goals from Juventus' Christiano Ronaldo, in a space of 9 minutes gave the Old ladies a complete comeback. The first goal came from the penalty spot in the 26th minute, whilst the 2nd came in the 35 minute when the football great profited from some poor defensive work to score his 2nd of the night. Before this game, Christiano Ronaldo had gone 5 games without a goal. All 3 goals were scored in the first half, but Juventus made sure to keep that scoreline the same till the end of the game, ensuring they have a better advantage going into the 2nd leg in Turin. 4) ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE: Manchester United 9:0 Southampton. The red devils returned to winning ways in grand style after they had gone 2 consecutive games without a win, which included their shocking home defeat to League bottom team Sheffield United. Although Southampton were going through a difficult period of their own, no one would have ever predicted them to suffer a heavy defeat of 9 goals to nothing. Ralph Hasenhutti's side gifted Manchester United the advantage just 2 minutes into the game when Alexandre Jakanwitz got sent off for "serious foul play" on Scott McTominay in his debut game for the Saints, but it took the red devils another 16 minutes before they got their first goal thanks to Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The red devils doubled their lead 7 minutes later through Marcos Rashford, and were 3 goal up in the 34th minute when Jan Bednarek scored an own goal piling more misery on his team. Edison Cavani made it 4 5 minutes later, giving the red devils a huge advantage of taking all 3 points in the game just in the first half. United continued their rout in the 2nd half, scoring 5 more goals, 2 from Anthony Martial sandwiching both McTominay"s goal and Bruno Fernandes' converted penalty, with Daniel James' getting the last goal 2 minutes from the final whistle. Ole-Gunnar Solkjear will definitely be pleased to see his team put an end to their poor run of game with this emphatic win as they focus on battling city rival, Manchester City for top spot. 5) NIGERIAN PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Abia Warriors 4:1 Sunshine Stars. Abia Warriors claimed their first win of the season with a stunning, but emphatic win over Sunshine Stars. I bet no one would have seen that coming considering that Sunshine Stars, in a game before this, had gotten an emphatic 3-1 victory over Enugu Rangers. Well, welcome to the NPFL. Abia Warriors were 2 goals up in the first half thanks to Fatai Abdullahi's goal in the 16th minute and Emmanuel Ugwuka's 5 minutes later. However, the Akure Gunners threatened a comeback when Sadeeq Yusuf Ahmat reduced their deficit by half in the 61st minute, but 2 more goals from Bello Lukman in the next 17 minutes ensured there was no coming back for Gbenga Ogunbote's men. Abia Warriors will definitely be delighted with this win after a run of 7 games without a win. To me, it is looking more like a revival as the Warriors are yet to be defeated in their last 4 games, 3 draws and 1 win. These are all the games we will be having for today, feel free to drop the games that got your own attention as well. Much love from your Football Analyst and Writer, IbkDaGreat.
