Manchester City Smashed Sporting Lisbon 5-0 Away in Portugal
Manchester City yesterday ensure they book their place in the quarterfinals of this year Champions League competition with a 5-0 whitewashing of Portuguese champion sporting Lisbon in the first leg of the knockout stage. The visiting side who are quite the heavy favourite to lift this year Champions League showcased their strength against the home side as goals from Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva' brace, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling helped put Pep Guardiola's men in a favourite position to advance to the next round. Mahrez has put Manchester City ahead in the minute but the central referee has blown it to be offside before the VAR overturned the decision to make the goal stand. Bernardo Silva scored in between Phil Foden's goal for City to make it 4-0 before the end of the first half.Rasheed Sterling completed it 5-0 at the start of the second half. Despite the result, Sporting Lisbon coach Rúben Amorim was full of praises for his boys for the performance they displayed against one of Europe elite football club. Bernardo Silver who scored two goals was awarded the man-of-the-match was full of memories for his former League and admitted City didn't play at their best but were able to get the needed results.
