My Favorite Stadium: The Nest of Champions.
Hi Guys Growing up in Akwa Ibom State where European football is of great delight and being a football fan over the years we long for a stadium in which we can call our own and also watch great encounters from the stands other than the viewing centre. Before year 2014, all I was left with was an imagination... How does it feel to be in a stadium for a live match? How does the wow moments feels like when home fans have to come out in uniform to cheer their team to Victory? How long does it take for 10 - 90,000 fans to go into the stadium? How about the traffic control? How do fans feel meeting your favourite football stars one on one? All these questions was being answered on Friday, 7th of November 2014 as "My Favorite Stadium" the "Nest of Champions" was being commissioned. It was a moment to behold as over 30,000 fans sang the national anthem with one voice before the kick-off whistle of the opening game against the black Stars of Ghana. But hey it's about the stadium so please come with me it me tell you what it got. Owners The Nest of Champions belongs to Akwa Ibom State government Opening Games 7 November, 2014. Nigeria 2:1 Ghana Emem Eduok (An Akwaibomite) was the scorer of the first international goal on the Nest of Champions. That means that all Super Eagles home games for both the Russia 2018 World Cup and Egypt 2019 Nations Cup qualifiers will be held in Nest of Champions. I couldn't wait to meet players like Victor Moses, Odiong Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Kelechi, Alex Iwobi, etc. The Super Eagles first home game for the World Cup qualifiers was against Algeria and I was there live to witness the game as the Super Eagles soar over Algeria 3-1. Goals coming from Moses Mikel and Moses in which all the fans were shouting and chanting "MMM" in the wonderful evening. The whole atmosphere was electrified with uniform clap. I couldn't believe I could ever meet the likes of Mahrez, Slimani, Nabil Bentaleb and Brahimi live in just a day. It was a wonderful day to behold. Then a 4:0 victory over Cameroon and finally a 1:0 slim victory over Zambia to become the first African team to qualify last year's Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup. Wow! what an arena to behold. The governor of the state Mr. Udom Emmanuel was awarded the Sport Personality Of The Year Akwa Ibom fans won best fans of the year """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" Qualify For 2019 CAF Nations Cup with a Game To Go For the CAF Nations Cup qualification a 4:0 win over Libya was actually a crazy one. Let me tell you that this was the match that holds the decision if the Super Eagles are going for the Nations Cup or not, but the shock us with a superb scoreline. Odiong Ighalo that lost his scoring form for months regained it with a hat trick. Wow wow wow. That's the Nest of Champions. He was the highest goal scorer in the qualifications round. Even though we lose, luck was still alive for some players as they got picked by the Super Eagles coach picked interest in them. It was not easy we never believed it was happening for us daddy Super Eagles lose their opening game the nation Cup qualifiers against South Africa at Nest of Champions. The state government did everything to make sure the fans fil the stadium to the brain by cutting down the ticket price and giving up thousands of ticket free but what did you get at the end of the day, a calm and quiet Stadium there was no wow moments but poor result and blunders. we were disappointed, we hated what we saw, everyone was at fault but, no want accept the blame. But I believe that particular lost really help the team to sit up. Secondly, I was really disappointed on two occasions when the Super Eagles reschedule their training sessions without informing the fans. After traveling for over an hour to watch the Super Eagles train but only to go and meet an empty training pitch... It was truly a waste of time, energy and resources.
