50 years ago the United States managed to lead the Open to Intermediate tournament in Carnoustie. In the 1968 season, Bily Casper successfully led the major tournament until the final round. Unfortunately, Casper actually slumped in the final round with 78 strokes. At that time, Gary Player who won it.

This time it was Johnson and Kisner's turn to continue that history. Both are currently at the top of the standings with a par -6 score of 136 punches. Behind 1 stroke behind them, there are Xander Schauffele and Pat Perez who are also American golfers, as well as the best European Tommy Fleetwod in the British Open 2018 so far.

Fleetwood was in the spotlight, as he scored the lowest with 65 blows, and became the only golfer to finish the second half without bogey. Thanks to that achievement, Fleetwood rose 49 positions.

Johnson scored par -4 67 blows, while Kisner was slightly bigger with 70 punches. Kisner led 2 strokes, but had to share his place with Johnson after he scored a double bogey in the last hole.

"I do not have to punish myself for making a mistake," Kisner said of a double bogey in the 18th hole. "I do not feel any fault in my game Everything happens for a reason I hope I still have a chance to prove I can be competitive here."

Unlike Kisner, Johnson actually scored a birdie on the 18th hole.

"You have to do everything to get a low score," Johnson said. "Everyone says so."
