Golf is a game played on a large open-air course, in which a small hard ball is struck with a club into a series of small holes in the ground, the object being to use the fewest possible strokes to complete the course.
It is a game enjoyed all over the world by both players and fans. It requires concentration and precision. It is enjoyed by professional athletes and amateurs, both of whom compete throughout the year for titles and prizes. Many people consider golf an easy game to learn, but not everyone is actually good at golf.
The basics of golf include hitting a ball with a club, trying hard to hit the ball directly into the hole on the green.

More about a Golf course...
A golf course is the grounds where the game of golf is played. It comprises a series of holes, each consisting of a teeing ground, a fairway, the rough and other hazards, and a green with a flag-stick ("pin") and hole ("cup").
A standard round of golf consists of 18 holes. Most courses contain 18 holes; some share fairways or greens, and a subset has nine holes, played twice per round. The green area of the course is known as the fairway hence, it can also be called 'greens'.
Here is a vector picture to illustrate the holes
In the picture above, the small with triangular flags represent a hole. A standard golf course has nine (9) holes.
There are different types of Golf Courses
Golf courses can be categorized according to: ownership, length or by the setting and design of the courses. Most of non-professional golf is played on the standard 18-hole, full-length courses but there are also 9-hole courses, executive courses, par 3s and miniature courses to enjoy. This variety means that if you have a limited time-frame or even a beginner, there are options available to you. Golf is interesting. Isn't it?
The owners of a course can decide to make it open to the public, or restrict it to a select group of people. The same is true for clubs, hotels and resorts.

Par-3 courses consist of nine or 18 holes all of which have a par of three strokes.
Par simply means normal.
In 1944, the United States Golf Association (Men) of the day laid down the following very modern distances for determining par:
Up to 225 yards: Par 3
225 to 425 yards: Par 4
426 to 600 yards: Par 5
Over 601 yards: Par 6

How is Golf Played?
Golfers begin a play by standing at the teeing green and aiming the ball towards the putting green, the area where the flag-stick and hole are located. The length from the teeing green to the hole varies depending on the course, and it may or may not be seen from the teeing the green. Most courses have holes that are seen from the teeing green, but some angle left or right making the invisible from the teeing green.
Golf courses use different lengths of turf or grass to increase the difficulty of the game. On the putting green, the area closest to the hole, the grass will be short and smooth to make it easier to putt into the hold. The course may also consist of intentional hazards such as sand dunes or lakes. If a ball is hit into a hazard area, a golfer can attempt to make the next swing from the hazard or hit a new ball in an area across from the hazard.

A hazard is an area of a golf course in the sport of golf which provides a difficult obstacle, which may be of two types:
- Water hazards such as lakes and rivers; and
- Man-made hazards such as bunkers (sand trap). Most of the time, the rules of Golf govern exactly from where the ball may be played outside a hazard.

Putting Green
The putting green is a smooth area of short grass surrounding a hole, either as part of a golf course or as a separate area for putting.
Some people buy an artificial Putting Green and put it in their homes for practice or leisure.
What is a Putt/Putting in Golf?
A putt in golf is a golf stroke made on a putting green to cause the ball to roll into or near the hole.
What is a golf tee?
The golf tee is the little piece of equipment that raises the golf ball off the ground when playing the first stroke of a hole from the teeing ground. A golf tee is typically a thin, wood or plastic peg, two or three inches in height, atop which a golf ball sits in a stable and stationary position.
The tee is pushed down into the turf on the teeing ground, leaving a portion of the tee above ground, and the ball placed atop the golf tee prior to playing the stroke.
A golf tee may only be used on the teeing ground under the rules, although the use of a tee is not required. How high the tee lifts the ball off the ground is up to the golfer (although the length of the tee plays a key role in that, obviously) and depends on various factors such as the club being used for the stroke. Golf Ball
It comes in different designs and is of different types. Golf balls are considered to be of a two, three, or four piece design, which is referring to the number of layers used to construct the ball. Heavier, harder balls tend to travel farther while softer balls allow for more spin.
Golf Club
This is the tool used to hit the ball in golf. It comes with a heavy wooden or metal head on a slender shaft.
A golf club
The three main types of clubs include the woods, irons, and putters. The woods are used for long shots when shooting from the tee. Irons allow for more precision and are often used on the fairway. A putter is a club that doesn't allow the ball to loft into the air too much, making it the ideal club for putting the ball when close to the hole.

Golf Bags
Golf Bags are used to carry golf balls, clubs, tees and other things needed on the golf course during play.
Golf Shoes
The golf course is made up of grassy, sandy and water regions. It is important that a golfer moves with comfort during a game. Also, he/she must be fashionable and stylish. Good Golf shoes are needed to have a great game.
