It's hard to believe we're already on the brink of the 3rd round of the PGA FedExCup Playoffs. So far it's been all Bryson DeChambeau, who has dominated in both tournaments, winning the first two legs of the FedExCup Playoffs, which should earn him a spot on the Ryder Cup team for the U.S.
If you followed my picks last week, you're likely not too happy with me. Although I incredibly had the 3rd, 4th, and 12th place finishers ( Cameron Smith, Hideki Matsuyama, Brooks Koepka), a fantasy golf team is only as good as its weakest player, and I had two absolute duds in Jason Day and Zach Johnson who both missed the cut. The lineup still finished in the top 30%, but that's not good enough to get into the money in a competitive daily fantasy tournament.
This week we're heading to the BMW Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newton Square, Pennsylvania.
PGA Yahoo! Cup $1,000 Freeroll Lineup: BMW Championship
Who better to build your team around than Justin Rose and red-hot Bryson DeChambeau? Rose is priced high at $47, but coming off a 2nd place finish at TPC Boston, Rose is in a perfect spot to win the BMW Championship at Aronimink, which he accomplished in 2010. Rose is the third betting favorite at +1350 behind Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas, and I love him this week.
When someone's hot, sometimes you just have to stick with them until they're not. That's why DeChambeau at $38 is a no-brainer for me. I don't expect him to win a third tournament in a row, but I will be happy with a top-20 finish, and I think that's very likely here.
Since I was able to find several cheap options, which I'll discuss below, I filled the top of my lineup with another favorite -- Rory McIlroy. McIlroy is the 6th betting favorite at +1575 and has finished in the top 12 in four of the last five tournaments, including last week. The name comes with a high price tag at $45, but if you're comfortable using several heavy underdogs at the bottom of your lineup, take him.
I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill out my roster with Adam Scott at only $24, Billy Horschel at $23, and Gary Woodland who surprisingly is at the minimum at $20. While he finished a disappointing 49th in the Dell Technologies Championship last week, Scott looked great in his final round, shooting a 66. I expect him to improve this week and break into the top 25 of the BMW Championship.
We'll now take a look at Billy Horschel who is a boom-or-bust golfer. He went bust last week, finishing in 97th place after two straight top 12 finishes. At $23, I'll take a chance on him getting back on track.
Gary Woodland is an absolute steal at $20 here. He is a +7575 underdog to win the tournament, which favors him over players including Ian Poulter, C.T. Pan, Henrik Stenson, Bubba Watson, and many others who are priced above Woodland. He's capable of a top 30 finish, which is an amazing outcome for a minimum priced player.
