Word on the street is we have a potential 1-on-1 match-up in the making. Phil vs. Tiger. For those unfamiliar with either or both names, I’m talking about Phil Mickelson, 5 time PGA majors champ, and Tiger Woods, a name that can’t be mistaken. 

What started as a comment in jest, has gained real traction with both fans and media. Speaking after his first round at the Scottish Open, Mickelson was asked whether he had any updates on the rumored match.

“No, but hopefully in the next week or two. I think we’re close to having some stuff finalized," he said.


Since the beginning of July, Tiger and Phil have been working on putting together a head to head 18-hole match for $10 million. Both golfers have had their struggles more recently, but this match would be fun for both golfers, and I think would be good for the sport. As opposed to standard golf tournaments, I think this match-up would draw huge media presence, and younger and newer fans to watch. Further expanding the sport’s presence nationally and internationally.
