Today I Remember #16 - Jack Nicklaus a.k.a The Golden Bear (famous American Golfer)
When you talk Golf, one name is quite synonymous with the history of the sport, at a global scale; and that name is Jack Nicklaus. Image Source This 79-year old was an epitome of the sport of golf for over a 25-year period until names like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson hit the limelight. For all his amazing achievements in the sport, I actually consider Jack Nicklaus to be among the greatest golfers of all time, and perhaps the greatest ever. Parts of his remarkable record include being the only golfer to have completed the “Grand Slam” on regular and senior golf tours. Image Source Jack Nicklaus has recorded a startling 118 victories in golf tournaments; and has amassed an 18 major championship title win. He has also experienced the golf fortune of 9 finishes in third place and 19 finishes in second position, as well. During Jack Nicklaus’s career, he had focused on the major golf championships such as the U.S Open, the PGA Championship, the Masters Tournament and the Open Championship. He had the luxury of playing a select golfing schedule of PGA Tournaments but managed to record 73 victories in the process. Image Source His 73 wins in PGA tour events puts him in 3rd position behind golfers like Sam Snead with 82 wins; and Tiger Woods with 80 wins. Of his 18 major title wins, he won the PGA Championship five times, U.S. Open four times, Masters tournament six times and British Open three times. Jack Nicklaus’ superb career wins and records means that he is one out of a select five professional golfers to have recorded wins in all the four major golf events. Nicklaus was quite formidable during his prime; and was known to have employed the use of his psychological prowess and mental strength to prosecute games. He is also a respected designer of professional golf courses and has earned himself several awards and title for his brilliant course designs across the world. Also widely recognized as a successful author, Jack Nicklaus is an author who has written popular books such as his instructional book titled “Golf My Way”. Image Source Jack Nicklaus’ “Golf My Way” book is, without a doubt, one of the best instructional books of the sport ever written. And he has also written his autobiography captioned “My Story”. Following his worthwhile success in the sport, Nicklaus is a successful business man who owns several business ventures and till date, hosts “The Memorial Tournament” which he also founded. I would always remain fascinated by the achievements of this great golfer, who has been awarded numerous times and has been inducted into several Halls of Fame for his services to the golf sport.
