Today I Remember #3 - Rickie Fowler
Today a namesake of mine, American golfer, Rickie Fowler, becomes a year older. Even though I didn’t personally get past amateur level when playing competitive sports, I do appreciate great sportsmen and women who have achieved and are still achieving a lot in their chosen field of sports. Image Credit One of such names is Rickie Fowler, the 30-year old golfer whose fame rose considerably when he successfully maintained top position between 2007 and 2008 in amateur golfing for 37 straight weeks. That is certainly not a record that can be achieved every other time – if it were easy, every other golfer would have equalled or surpassed it. Rickie Fowler has achieved quite a lot in his short career which professionally commenced in 2009. Prior to his professional début at the PGA Tour, he had been a force at the Amateur rank. Image Credit He won the Walker Cup as an Amateur golfer with the US twice. He had also won the Amateur Sunnehanna tourney in 2007 and the Western Junior two years earlier in 2005. After going pro, Rickie Fowler won so many tournaments which he competed in. He won among many, the Deutsche Bank tourney, the Kolon Korea Open and many such tournaments. In 2016, in the World Golf Ranking, Rickie Fowler was ranked a career-high fourth position, following his victory in the Abu Dhabi Golf Classic. It was Rickie Fowler’s first victory of the year 2016, and he was superb during the European tour of that year. However, despite his prolific features in the golf majors of a calendar year, in which he has finished in the top-5 position on eight occasions, he is yet to win any of the major championships. So far in his career, Fowler has achieved four wins in PGA tours, as well as two wins, in the European tours. His best return at a major championship is the 2nd place position. I recall watching him achieve that at the Masters Tournament of 2018 between April 5th and 8th, earlier this year. What do you think of the 30-year old Rickie Fowler's career? Is he an Average or Top Golfer?
