TAKENGON - Traditional horse races are again held in Takengon Town, Central Aceh District, Aceh Province - Indonesia.
The annual event in order to enliven the 441th anniversary of Takengon City will be held on 5 to 11 March 2018 at HM Hasan Gayo Field, Blang Bebangka, Pegasing Sub-District, local District.
In addition to the horse race, the anniversary of Takengon City, will be enlivened with a series of events such as cultural carnivals, as well as bicycle and leisure events.
Takengon
Horse race is one of the great cultural ceremonies in Takengon, Central Aceh. Usually this event is held to commemorate the anniversary of Indonesian independence as well as on other major events.
Basically, traditional horse racing for Aceh Province was implemented in three districts of Central Aceh, Bener Meriah and Gayo Lues. This sacred event became the silaturrahmi of horse lovers in Gayo.
Horse racing at Gayo is not just a mere game, but more than that. It concerns the hobby and the prestige of the horse owner. Therefore, the prize is not a major benchmark, although for the treatment of horses can cost up to Rp. 500.000,00 per month.
History of Horse Racing
Telling about the racetrack, it turns out his existence can not be separated from the role of the Dutch East Indies government. Initially this event was held to commemorate the birthday of the Dutch Queen Willhelminapada in 1926 and continues to be held annually by the Netherlands. But after independence, the momentum of the horse race then turned into a people's party as a form of the Gayo people's joy for the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
The horses are used everyday as a hijacker this time field down the spaciousness. Ridden Jockeys are usually children aged 8 to 15 years, without the use of saddles with horse batter made of rattan. In the past the race was divided into three categories, ranging from Young Horses for ages 5 years and under, Adult Horse aged 5 to 7 years and Old Horse 8 to 10 years.
Formerly the horse race was carried out in the village area without a clear runway, along with the development of the area then switched to the field Musara Alundi Belang Kolak II until finally in 2006 moved to LapanganBelang Bebangka in Kayu Kul until now still held in this place. This an average event lasts for a week, initially held only one year but since the year 2011 event that became this people's week become twice a year. This Cultural Party is not only very interested in Gayo society until now, but also became known by the people of Indonesia and the news of its existence has expanded other countries.
Horse Racing is very simple, but the result is good and beneficial for the people of Aceh, especially Takengon.
