2006 Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Tournament Recap

On Monday, February 20th, 2006, Canada defeated Sweden 4-1 in the gold medal game to win the third gold medal in Olympic women’s ice hockey history. It was the second gold medal for the Canada in Olympic women’s ice hockey, as Sweden took their first silver medal in Olympic women’s ice hockey with the loss. The United States claimed their first bronze medal in Olympic women’s ice hockey with their 4-0 victory over Finland in the bronze medal game. The tournament was held in Italy, with Turin as the host city.

Cherie Piper and Gillian Apps of Canada tied for the most goals scored during the tournament with seven, while Charline Labonte of Canada led goaltenders in save percentage at .976.
