Blockchain | EOS Review
The idea of the blockchain protocol EOS.IO was initially published on a whitepaper in 2017. This was done by the company named Block. One who researched and developed the EOS protocol which then released a testnet in July 2017, putting EOS in the market at an initial price of $1.02 USD. The initial ICO (Initial Coin Offerings) of EOS raised a total of $4 billion USD which is the largest of any ICO in history. The EOS blockchain protocol was designed to allow for a complex smart contract platform, the ability to host decentralized apps, eliminating transaction fees, and the capabilities to store enterprise solutions in a decentralized manner. This is an attempt to target the features that Ethereum and Bitcoin currently lack in and have an impressive protocol to allow for this. Daniel Larimer, who is the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of EOS, has previous experiences and expertise in aiding the creation of decentralized applications such as Bitshares, which is a decentralized exchange, and Steemit, which is a decentralized social media platform. The governance model behind EOS includes 21 block producers who come to terms with future agreements and developments which is represented through a voting system. Recently, there has been some issues revolving the decentralization rating around this governance model and whether or not individuals or groups can dictate further decisions about the protocol. Hopefully this can be resolved and a self-sustaining technology arises from all the failures that have to occur along the way. The current circulating supply of EOS is 906 million and the total supply of EOS will be 1 billion. The EOS market price reached an all-time high on $18.74 USD per EOS with a total market capitalization of $15.5 billion USD on April 30th, 2018 during the bear market period. The current price per EOS is $5.41 USD and the total market capitalization is currently just under $5 billion USD. The current daily trading volume of EOS is at $374 million.
