There are many martial arts in the world, and you can lean any martial art you like. You can have different reasons for learning martial arts. You love sports and want to be a champion in the fighting competition. If you have a goal like that, you can learn martial arts.

If you just want to stay healthy and fit, you can also learn martial arts. Every martial art training starts with a warm-up and basic exercise. When you enroll to learn martial arts, you will do nothing but exercise for a couple of weeks. You might be sad that you want to learn martial arts, but all you are doing is exercise.

Just follow your instructor's instructions. You are not ready yet to learn martial arts. You need to be prepared yourself first. When you are ready, you will start learning strikes, defense, and different moves.

However, if you want to learn martial arts for self defense, you should learn those martial arts that focus on combat in real-life situations. There is a huge difference between fighting in a ring and fighting for defending yourself. The mindset is totally different.

You make your moves differently, and your training would be different when you learn how to protect yourself. Sometimes you see different fancy moves in martial art action moves that are useless for self defense. Even if you try to make any of those moves, you will put yourself in a vulnerable position.

Choose which martial art you are going to learn. Learning martial arts from an expert who has some real-life experience matters. Doing something that works in training but not in real life cannot do any good. Your instructor can share his experience while teaching you.

And last but not least, it is up to you what you learn and how you put it into action. If you are not good at it, you cannot make it work for you in a fight for self defense. So have an open mind and keep learning.
