There is something I see people usually do not talk about when it comes to self defense. You can see the physical movement. But there are psychological aspects and mental toughness that can determine what you are going to do in a situation for self defense.
If the attacker holds a gun or knife, you know how to make a move to defend yourself. The fact is if you do not consider the psychological aspects, it might not work in real-life situations.
Don't think the attacker is stupid. If he sees that you try to do something to defend yourself, he will not think twice before attacking. And all the attacker has to do is to pull the trigger of the gun or make a little move of his knife. You can easily guess what would happen next.
When you are being attacked and if you get an opportunity to talk to the attack, talk to him. You can talk to the attacker and give him what he wants. Even you decide to make your move to attack him, still, talk to him. While he is talking to you, his mind is not there to stab you, although he holds the knife. If you can distract him, that's better. Then you can make your move.
We talk about body condition and what to do to condition your body so that you can defend that strike. Mental toughness is as important as body condition. If you are mentally strong, you can make your move and handle the situation successfully.
The situation can be the same, but the action might be different because of the mental toughness. Doing something under pressure is a skill. If you can handle the situation and calm down under pressure, that's better. Every situation is different, and you need to make the decision fast, observing the situation in order to protect yourself.
