If you practice martial art, what I am going to share today, I think you can relate to that. When you learn different techniques, you practice that with your training partner or another martial artist. By practicing that, you understand how it is going to be used for self defense.

Sometimes you think about something and come up with a solution about how to defend yourself against some specific attacks. To check out that technique, you often practice that with another martial artist. So when he attacks you, you defend and counter-attack using that technique. Then you understand how effective that is.

When we talk about self defense, we usually talk about serious stuff. You can have some fun while training. When your training partner knows how you are going to attack him, he is mentally prepared to defend. While you spar, you see, your partner does something to defend that, or you do not find it easy to use specific techniques because he knows what you are about to do.

The same thing happens when you fight for self defense. You can use the element of surprise to attack. The attacker will not expect that. And you can easily penetrate his defense and hit him. So do not show off what you are going to do. We usually see in movies that before a fight, they show different moves. As Bruce Lee said,

Showing off is the fool's idea of glory. - Bruce Lee

When you are in a situation and your life is in danger, you can counter-attack with an element of surprise. It is not that only attacker attacks you out of nowhere. You can also do that to protect yourself. In case you have not read this post, you can read that - What To Do Against Surprise Attack - Self Defense.

You need to open your mind when you deal with a situation. I talk about different situations so that you can understand what can be done for self defense. You can always apply the basics. It works.
