If you two have the same height and strength, you can deal with the situation. Maybe you can call it a fair fight. But when it comes to self defense in real life or on the street fight, it is not a fair fight. The attacker can be taller and stronger than you.
So how can you defend yourself if a bigger guy grabs your shirt and pulls you?
Awareness is the key. When you are aware of the situation, you can make your move fast. And that makes the huge difference in self defense. No matter which martial arts you learning, they will teach you this.
Let's watch this video first to understand the situation. All video credit goes to Nick Drossos.
So you are walking on the campus. If a big guy grabs your shirt, that puts you in an uncomfortable situation. Since he is taller and stronger than you, he has the leverage.
If you want to attack him, you can do that. But the guy can easily control your movement grabbing your shirt. So first make it hard for him to control your moves. You can simply grab his hand that holds your shirt and strike him.
You can also grab the attacker's hand, turn, hyperextend and put pressure. This is going to be painful and he cannot grab you anymore.
In this video, it says open hand strikes, it can be palm strike, chop, attack to the eyes. The most important thing is, if you are not trained to attack with open hands, you will hurt yourself. So I highly recommend to learn martial arts and practice how to strike.
