San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner won the game against Chicago Cubs Darvish but failed to become a winning pitcher.
Bumgarner pitched as a starter in a home game against the Cubs at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California and recorded six hits, seven strikeouts and three runs on seven innings. Darvish, who started the game against Bumgarner, pitched a disappointing pitch with six hits one homerun, six strikeouts, one walk and four runs.
The Cubs scored first on Javier Vazques double in the top of the first inning and Chris Bryant's one-run timely.
San Francisco tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly from Mike Yastrzemski.
The Cubs stole two bases after Baez got on base with a hit and drove it to third base. Bryant responded to Baez's run by turning the game upside down with an RBI single.
San Francisco returned to square one with Alex Dickerson's solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Kevin Fiala then hit a two-run double to make the 4-2 turnaround.
The Cubs took the game gradually to 3-4, with Victor Caratini hitting an RBI single in the top of the seventh. Bumgarner, however, kept the lead after finishing the inning with no additional runs.
The San Francisco bullpen blew off the lead that Bumgarner struggled to keep. Reyes Moronta, who took the mound in the eighth inning, hit a double by Bryant, and then gave up a walk to Daniel Descalso to make it first and third with one out. San Francisco replaced Moronta with Tony Watson, but allowed Jason Heyward
to tie the game 1-1 for an RBI timely hit.
In the end, the match continued to extend. In the bottom of the 10th inning, San Francisco got a two-out, bases-loaded chance with Fiala's double, Brandon Belt's four automatic intentional pitches and Buster Posey's body-fitting ball. Pablo Sandoval, however, failed to save his chances as he grounded out to second base.
Sandoval ended the game with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 13th inning. With a 5-4 win, San Francisco won its third straight game.
