The New York Yankees will play the opening game without Aaron Hicks, the main player.
Hicks, a middle-ranking player in the U.S., received a second Cortisone injection to relieve back pain, the Associated Press reported on Wednesday.
Hicks, who felt pain in his waist while training for batting in early March, had already been treated with cortisone injections on the 14th.
Fortunately, it does not appear to be a serious injury. Yankees manager Aaron Boone predicted that Hicks will be able to return around the second week after the opening.
Hicks' vacant seat will be filled by Brett Gardner. "AP News" predicted that Gardner, a left fielder, will take the center field and giancarlo stanton, a designated hitter, will take the left field for the time being. Luke Boyd and Greg Bird are expected to take turns.
Meanwhile,Hicks is playing in 595 games of his career in the big league, recording a batting average of .236 70 homers, 240 RBIs, 50 stolen bases, and .724. Hicks, who has been in the Yankees since 2017, became a top mid-size player last year with a batting average of .248 27 homers, 79 RBIs and 4.9 OPS .833 fWARs.
