If you are a baseball fan, then you most likely have heard the story of Dock Ellis. Dock pitched a no-hitter on June 12, 1970 and then years later claimed that he was on LSD at the time. The no hitter was particularly unusual because Dock had little control on the mound, walking 8 batters and hitting one.

In 1984 Doc provided a more detailed explanation for his lack of control on the mound. Apparently, he was at home on game-day and forgot there was a game. So like any other young American living in the 70's, he decided to pop some acid. :) Supposedly, an hour or two later his girlfriend alerted him that it was game-day and he was slated to start. . .That must have been a "trippy" moment. . His first thought must have been, "Oh shit, how am I gonna pitch seeing trails off the ball?!!"

If you are an LSD virgin then you probably have no idea how crazy of a feat this is, if it actually happened. .

Here are some quotes from Doc regarding the game:

“I can only remember bits and pieces of the game. I was psyched. I had a feeling of euphoria.
I was zeroed in on the [catcher’s] glove, but I didn’t hit the glove too much. I remember hitting a couple of batters and the bases were loaded two or three times.
The ball was small sometimes, the ball was large sometimes, sometimes I saw the catcher, sometimes I didn’t. Sometimes I tried to stare the hitter down and throw while I was looking at him. I chewed my gum until it turned to powder. They say I had about three to four fielding chances. I remember diving out of the way of a ball I thought was a line drive. I jumped, but the ball wasn’t hit hard and never reached me.”

Later on in 1985 Doc also claims that he never pitched a game when he wasn't "high". Which I find extremely humorous regardless of what happened regarding the no-hitter.

Pitching a no-hitter is hard enough, let alone doing it while on acid. This story has been around a long time and I am really interested in hearing what the MLB fans on Scorum think.

Did Dock Ellis pitch a no-hitter while on LSD? or Is it all BS?

Let me know!

Peace!
