The Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers got a quick two game series started today that will play a crucial role in the race not only for the National League Central race but also for the NL Wild Card. The Cubs entered today as the leader, by 3 games, in the division but that did not slow down the Brewers from fighting back.

Jose Quintana got the start at pitcher for the Cubs and he got the crap kicked out of him. It was simply embarrassing. He went only 5 innings and gave up 5 runs that included several long bombs into the bleachers for home runs. This is the third time in the last four games that Quintana has given up at least 5 runs in no more than 6 innings pitched. That is a terrifying stat for a Cubs rotation that is in big trouble.

The Brewers got a monster game from their former slugger Ryan Braun. He ripped two home runs and put a dagger into the Cubs that would end up in a 7-0 win. Braun is having his worst statistical year of his career and is definitely on his down slide since his PED suspension but his performance today will put a big shot in the arm to the Brewers NL Central race.

Missing from the Cubs line up today was their rookie 3B star, David Bote, who is filling in for the injured Kris Bryant. Bote was given a day off to put Tommy LaStella in the line up, which made little sense. LaStella is only batting .275 compared to Bote’s .329. That bothered Cubs nation after Bote hit a walk off grand slam on Sunday night.

The two teams will face off tomorrow afternoon at 1:20pm for their final game of this quick series. The Cubs will give the ball to Kyle Hendricks and the Brewers will counter with Junior Guerra.
