On Wednesday, October 13th, 1915, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Philadelphia Phillies at Fenway Park in Boston to clinch the 12th World Series four games to one. It was the third World Series championship for the Red Sox franchise and the second that was won in Pennsylvania. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. Pete Alexander (Phillies)- P
Alexander was the player of the game in game one, as he started and went all nine innings, giving up one earned run on eight hits and a pair of walks in the Phillies’ 3-1 win, the team’s only win during the series.
4. Harry Hooper (Red Sox)- RF
Hooper earned player of the game honors in game five, driving in two earned runs with a pair of runs and three hits as the Red Sox won it 5-4 to claim the series victory. Overall, Hooper hit three RBI with four runs and seven hits for a .350 batting average.
3. Ernie Shore (Red Sox)- P
Shore was game four’s player of the game, going all nine innings with just one earned run allowed on seven hits and four walks as the Red Sox took it 2-1, their third 2-1 victory of the series.
2. Dutch Leonard (Red Sox)- P
Leonard was the player of the game in game three, pitching a complete game with one earned run allowed on three hits as the Red Sox won it 2-1. It would also be the only start that Leonard made during the series.
1. Rube Foster (Red Sox)- P
Foster, not to be confused with the Negro League player of the same name, was the game two player of the game, pitching a complete game shutout with one earned run given up on three hits in the Red Sox’ 2-1 win.
