On Sunday, October 8th, 1922, the New York (now San Francisco) Giants defeated the New York Yankees at Polo Grounds in New York to clinch the 19th World Series four games to zero with one tie. It was the third World Series championship for the Giants franchise and the fifth that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. Jesse Barnes (Giants)- P
Barnes took player of the game in game two, going all 10 innings while allowing two earned runs along with eight hits and a pair of walks as the teams battled to a 3-3 tie, to date the final tied result in the series’ history.
4. High Pockets Kelly (Giants)- 1B
Kelly earned player of the game in game five, as he knocked in two RBIs with two hits in the Giants’ 5-3 victory to claim the series victory.
3. Hugh McQuillan (Giants)- P
McQuillan was the player of the game in game four, as he pitched a complete game with three earned runs given up on eight hits and a pair of walks, which was enough to allow the Giants to take the 4-3 win.
2. Art Nehf (Giants)- P
Nehf picked up player of the game honors in game one, allowing one earned run over the course of seven innings with six hits and a walk as the Giants went on to win it 3-2.
1. Jack Scott (Giants)- P
Scott claimed player of the game in game three as he pitched a complete game shutout while giving up just four hits and a walk in the Giants’ 3-0 victory.
