On Sunday, October 28th, 2012, the San Francisco Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit to win the 108th World Series four games to none, the most recent World Series sweep as of this writing. It was the seventh World Series championship for the Giants franchise, as well as the seventh that was won in Michigan. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. #75 Barry Zito (Giants)- P
Zito picked up the win in game one, going five and two-thirds innings with one earned run allowed on six hits and one walk in the Giants’ 8-3 win.
4. #28 Buster Posey (Giants)- C
Posey earned player of the game honors in game four, getting two RBIs along with one run and one hit as the Giants won it 4-3 in 10 innings to claim the series sweep.
3. #48 Pablo Sandoval (Giants)- 3B
Sandoval took player of the game in game one, knocking in four RBIs with three runs and four hits as the Giants went on to claim the 8-3 victory.
2. #32 Ryan Vogelsong (Giants)- P
Vogelsong pitched his way to player of the game honors in game three, going five and two thirds innings with no earned runs allowed on five hits and four walks as the Giants claimed a 2-0 victory.
1. #40 Madison Bumgarner (Giants)- P
Bumgarner scored player of the game honors in game two, getting a shutout over the course of seven innings pitched, allowing just two hits and two walks in the Giants’ 2-0 victory.
