The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers look to face off in the 120th World Series, with the Yankees searching for their 28th championship while the Dodgers will attempt to score their eighth title in franchise history. The Dodgers-Yankees matchup has occurred more than any other combination in World Series history, as this will mark the 12th World Series held between the two teams, with the most recent one coming in 1981.
The Yankees most recently took home the Commissioner's Trophy during their most recent World Series appearance in 2009, but are known for having the most dominant dynasties in pro sports history, including winning five straight championships from 1949 to 1953. As a result, the Bronx Bombers have put together an impressive overall success rate of 27 for 40 in their total World Series appearances.
While the Dodgers are not quite as good in this regard, winning in just seven of their 21 World Series appearances, seven championships is still nothing to sneeze at, especially considering their most recent title came just a few seasons earlier in 2020. However, with all of those games being played at the neutral site of the Dallas area, the Dodgers will certainly be eager at the chance to win it in front of their home crowd.
Out of the 225 potential World Series matchups that would be possible under the current playoff format, 70 of them have occurred so far.
