Top 5 Players of the 1999 World Series
By Zane Miller On Wednesday, October 27th, 1999, the New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves at Yankee Stadium in New York to win the 95th World Series four games to none. It was the 25th World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the 29th that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #28 Chad Curtis (Yankees)- LF Curtis picked up partial player of the game in game three, as he hit two RBIs with two runs and two hits as the Yankees went on to win 6-5 in 10 innings. 4. #11 Chuck Knoblauch (Yankees)- 2B Knoblauch earned partial player of the game honors in game three, hitting two RBIs with two runs and two hits in the Yankees’ 6-5 win in 10 innings. 3. #24 Tino Martinez (Yankees)- 1B Martinez was player of the game in game two, knocking in two RBIs on a pair of runs and a pair of hits in the Yankees’ 7-2 win. 2. #26 Orlando Hernandez (Yankees)- P Hernandez picked up player of the game honors in game one, going seven innings while allowing one earned run on one hit and two walks as the Yankees won it 4-1. 1. #22 Roger Clemens (Yankees)- P Clemens pitched his way to player of the game in game four, going seven and two thirds innings, giving up one earned run on four hits and two walks as the Yankees won 4-1 to earn the series victory.
