The Major League baseball is on a lockout countdown.
If a new labor-management agreement is not reached by December 1 in the United States, it is highly likely that major league clubs will decide to shut down their jobs. This is the first time in 27 years since the season was halted in 1994 due to a strike and subsequent lockouts. USA Today reported on the 26th that Major League Baseball is on the verge of lockout. The labor-management agreement that the major league club and the players union agreed to three years ago will end just before midnight on the 1st of next month. If a new labor-management agreement is not reached by then, the club is in a position to decide to shut down the workplace.Changes to the 40-man roster are prohibited during lockout. Of course,an FA contract is impossible. Since players are prohibited from using the club's facilities during the lockout,if the labor-management agreement is delayed further, it could affect the spring camp, which starts in mid-February. In the worst case, the normal hosting of the 2022 season is also impossible. The issue is also the salary structure. In recent years, the tanking strategy of giving up results has become fashionable in the major leagues. It is a strategy to strengthen the power by lowering the grade and then getting the top pick in the draft.Again this season, Baltimore and Arizona lost 110, Texas 102 and Pittsburgh 101, while Washington lost 97 and Miami lost 95.The players union is of the opinion that the money-saving tanking strategy is a factor that harms the development of the league. As a result, the average salary of the top 125 people in 2020 was $18.9 million, which has dropped to $18.4 million in 2021. The club on the other hand,is of the opinion that it should be reduced further. The clubs are known to have proposed a proposal to link the salaries of young players to the WAR record or to set the age (29.5 years) as the free agent qualification standard. It means that they wants to use more young players before they gets free agent status. Changes in game rules are also a consideration for this labor-management agreement. The introduction of the designated hitter system in the National League is under consideration.A plan to expand the number of teams participating in the postseason was also included.Currently 10 teams of 5 teams in each league advance to the fall baseball, which will be increased to 14 or 16 teams. In the case of 14 teams, the team with the highest winning percentage in the league goes directly to the division series, and the remaining two winning teams in the other districts play a best-of-three game against the winning team in the wild card series. At this time, the two winning teams choose one of the two winning teams in the wildcard series. It is known that a plan to use a more sticky leather ball as an official ball as used in the KBO league is highly likely to be agreed to in order to prevent the use of foreign substances by pitchers. In the major leagues, the Labor-Management Agreement (CBA) was established in 1968. From the first strike in 1972 to the last strike in 1994, there were eight strikes in total. Labor and management are required to discuss changes in the minimum wage, FA system, and league operation.Eight people were included in the Executive Committee on the Labor Agreement, including Max Scherzer, Andrew Miller, Gerrit Cole, Marcus Simeon, James Paxton, Jason Castro, Francisco Lindor, and Jack Britton. Unlike the major leagues, the KBO League makes most decisions about league management without the consent of the players association. If the players union had agreed upon the decision to suspend the season last July, the noise surrounding it could have been minimized.
