Top 5 Players of the 2013 World Series
By Zane Miller On Wednesday, October 30th, 2013, the Boston Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals at Fenway Park in Boston to win the 109th World Series four games to two. It was the eighth World Series championship for the Red Sox franchise, as well as the ninth that was won in Massachusetts. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #52 Michael Wacha (Cardinals)- P Wacha scored player of the game in game two, going six innings while giving up just two earned runs on three hits and four walks as the Cardinals claimed the 4-2 victory. 4. #34 David Ortiz (Red Sox)- DH Ortiz was game one’s player of the game, driving in three earned runs on two runs and two hits as the Red Sox won it 8-1 to start the series. 3. #18 Shane Victorino (Red Sox)- RF Victorino earned player of the game honors in game six, knocking in four RBIs on a pair of hits and one walk as the Red Sox picked up a 6-1 win to earn the series championship. 2. #11 Clay Buchholz (Red Sox)- P Buchholz took player of the game honors in game four, going four innings while allowing no earned runs on three hits and three walks as the Red Sox went on to win 4-2. 1. #31 Jon Lester (Red Sox)- P Lester earned player of the game honors in game five, pitching seven and two thirds innings while allowing just one earned run on four hits and no walks in the Red Sox’s 3-1 victory.
