Top 5 Players of the 1991 World Series
By Zane Miller On Sunday, October 27th, 1991, the Minnesota Twins defeated the Atlanta Braves at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis to win the 88th World Series four games to three. It was the third (and as of this writing, most recent) World Series championship for the Twins franchise and the third that was won in Minnesota. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #7 Greg Gagne (Twins)- SS Gagne earned player of the game honors in game one, knocking three RBIs on one run and one hit in the Twins’ 5-2 win. 4. #19 Scott Erickson (Twins)- P Erickson took game six’s player of the game, pitching six innings while allowing three RBIs on five hits and a pair of walks as the Twins claimed a 4-3 victory in 11 innings. 3. #36 Kevin Tapani (Twins)- P Tapani earned player of the game in game two, going eight innings while allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and no walks as the Twins went on to win it 3-2. 2. #47 Jack Morris (Twins)- P Morris picked up player of the game honors in game seven, going all 10 innings with no earned runs given up on seven hits and a pair of walks as the Twins won it 1-0 in 10 innings to win the series. 1. #23 David Justice (Braves)- RF Justice got player of the game honors in games three and five, earning an RBI along with two runs and two hits in the Braves’ 5-4 victory in 12 innings, while game five saw him hit five RBIs along with two runs and two hits as the Braves picked up a 14-5 victory.
