Top 5 Players of the 1951 World Series
By Zane Miller On Wednesday, October 10th, 1951, the New York Yankees defeated the New York (now San Francisco) Giants at Yankee Stadium in New York to win the 48th World Series four games to two. It was the 14th World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the 17th that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #19 Al Dark (Giants)- SS Dark earned player of the game in game one, getting three RBIs along with one run and two hits as the Giants won it 5-1. 4. #5 Joe DiMaggio (Yankees)- CF DiMaggio took player of the game honors in game four, with two RBIs, a run and two hits in the Yankees’ 6-2 victory. 3. #12 Gil McDougald (Yankees)- 2B McDougald earned player of the game in game five, nabbing four RBIs with one run and one hit as the Yankees grabbed a 13-1 win. 2. #30 Eddie Lopat (Yankees)- P Lopat pitched his way to player of the game honors in game two, going all nine innings while allowing just one earned run on five hits and a pair of walks as the Yankees won it 3-1. 1. #17 Vic Raschi (Yankees)- P Raschi was the player of the game in game six, going six innings while giving up no earned runs with seven hits and five walks won it 4-3 to clinch the series.
