Top 5 Players of the 1990 World Series
By Zane Miller On Saturday, October 20th, 1990, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Oakland Athletics at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland to win the 87th World Series four games to none. It was the fifth (and as of this writing, most recent) World Series championship for the Reds franchise and the eighth that was won in California. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #40 Jack Armstrong (Reds)- P Armstrong went three scoreless innings with only one hit allowed in game two, helping to keep the Reds in the game as they eventually went on to win 5-4 in 10 innings. 4. #22 Billy Hatcher (Reds)- CF Hatcher picked up player of the game in game two, hitting an RBI with two runs, four hits and a walk as the Reds won it 5-4 in 10 innings. 3. #44 Eric Davis (Reds)- LF Davis earned player of the game honors in game one, as he drove in three RBIs with a pair of runs and a pair of hits as the Reds went on to take a 7-0 victory. 2. #17 Chris Sabo (Reds)- 3B Sabo got player of the game in game three, as he hit three RBIs along with two runs, two hits and one walk in the Reds’ 8-3 victory. 1. #27 Jose Rijo (Reds)- P Rijo earned player of the game honors in game four, going eight and a third innings while allowing just one earned run on two hits and three walks as the Reds claimed the 2-1 victory to win the series title.
