Top 5 Players of the 1998 World Series
By Zane Miller On Wednesday, October 21st, 1998, the New York Yankees defeated the San Diego Padres at Qualcomm Stadium (now SDCCU Stadium) in San Diego to win the 94th World Series four games to two. It was the 24th World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the ninth that was won in California. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #20 Jorge Posada (Yankees)- C Posada earned partial player of the game honors in game two, with two RBIs on one run, one hit and one walk as the Yankees picked up a 9-3 win. 4. #51 Bernie Williams (Yankees)- CF Williams earned partial player of the game honors in game two, hitting two RBIs along with one run, one hit and one walk as the Yankees won it 9-3. 3. #24 Tino Martinez (Yankees)- 1B Martinez earned player of the game in game one, driving in four RBIs on a pair of runs, one hit and one walk as the Yankees took the 9-6 victory. 2. #18 Scott Brosius (Yankees)- 3B Brosius picked up player of the game in game three, getting four RBIs along with a pair of runs and three hits in the Yankees’ 5-4 win. 1. #46 Andy Pettitte (Yankees)- P Pettitte was player of the game in game four, going seven and a third innings, allowing no earned runs on five hits and three walks as the Yankees won it 3-0 to earn the series sweep.
