MLB.com reported on the 18th that FA pitcher Francisco Liriano will retire after 14 years in the major leagues. Liriano has two sons and two daughters with his wife, Johanna Nawa, and it is known that the two sons are active in Little Baseball. Liriano has appeared in 419 games in his big league career, averaging 112–114 and a 4.15 ERA.He particularly boasts an average of more than nine strikeouts in nine innings, with 1815 strikeouts in his career 1813⅔ innings. Liriano joined the San Francisco Giants in 2000 when he was 17 years old, and started playing in the minor leagues in 2001.After being traded to the Minnesota Twins in 2003,he made his major league debut in 2005.In his first full-time season in 2006,he showed potential with 12 wins and 3 losses and a 2.16 ERA.He showed ups and downs.In 2010,he recorded a career high with 14 wins and 10 losses,a 3.62 ERA, and 201 strikeouts in 31 games. In 2013, he served as the team's ace with the Pittsburgh Pirates,marking a 16-8, 3.02 ERA, and in the postseason that year,he played in two games, battling 7 hits and 3 runs in 13 innings.In 2017, he also experienced World Series wins as a relief pitcher for the Houston Astros. After throwing 69 games in Pittsburgh in 2019, Liriano signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays early last year after taking a year off due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
