What started as a rumor is now a fact. The UFC has confirmed that, in effect, the former interim champion, Tony Ferguson, will make his return to the octagon after a year of inactivity to be measured at number 8 in the ranking, Anthony Pettis, at UFC 229.

Also, the fight will serve as the co-main event of the evening, displacing Derrick Lewis vs. Alexander Volkov as the second fight of the Main Billboard.

It is believed that the fight between Ferguson and Pettis was set for the event in case the lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, or the challenger, Conor McGregor, can not reach his anticipated fight for any injury or other such problem.

UFC 229 will be held on Saturday, October 6 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
