Is this the greatest heavyweight mixed martial artist of all time?
In my opinion... yes. I've gone back and forth time and time again with the Fedor's, the Stipe's, and the Werdum's of the world, but at the end of the day no heavyweight had an effect on me like a prime Cain Velasquez.
El Terremoto... the savage king. He took mens hearts before the first bell. His warm up is recognizable to any hardcore fan of the game, and he almost taunts his opponent with a ritualistic blood dance.
He is the most frightening fighter I've ever seen grace the Octagon. He was 250 pounds of deisel with the speed of a featherweight.
His dominance over the heavyweight division was nothing less than terrifying, and the fashion he destroyed monsters like Antonio Silva, Nogueira, Lesnar, and Junior Dos Santos solidifies him still as the most dominant finisher in heavyweight history.
I actually picked Cain to lose his fight against Fabricio Werdum all those years ago, but that was a combination of increased elevation and a 2 year layoff in which Cain had been rehabilitating moreso than anything else. The injuries that came with Cain's career were almost a catch-22 for the acclaimed wrestler and UFC champion.
With the ability to ragdoll and obliterate so many beasts.. he himself had to endure the worst bodily traumas. He in essence was the only man who could beat himself, and in the end Father Time is undefeated.
I'd recommend any new fans curious about mma to watch Cain Velasquez fights off the bat... he has never not been entertaining and he is truly one of the greatest fighters of all time. His savagery and constant pace provides appeal to the most casual of fans, but his fights are not for the faint of heart...
Cain returns to the cage in an epic battle against the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time in top 3 contender Francis Ngannou. This one won't be needing judges...
